With our extensive range of veterinary pharmaceuticals we offer our customers a variety of solutions – not only in the core anti-infective and parasite control sectors, but also in a range of specialist areas such as fertility management, livestock performance enhancement and the treatment of conditions such as diabetes and cardio-vascular disease in companion animals.
Anti-infectives and parasite controls
NUFLOR (florfenicol) and COBACTAN (cefquinome), both of which are used most widely to combat respiratory infections and mastitis, respectively, in livestock, spearhead our broad range of anti-infectives. Both have been the subject of extensive development work, which has paved the way for the registration of new indications and innovative formulations. These include injectable products and oral medication for use in swine, and long-acting and intramammary formulations offering extended antibacterial activity in cattle. We have also combined florfenicol with the Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID), flunixin, in RESFLOR, a one-shot treatment for cattle respiratory infections associated with pyrexia.
PANACUR/SAFEGUARD (fenbendazole) is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic with an outstanding safety profile used widely in a variety of food-producing and companion animal species. We offer a comprehensive range of other worm and fluke control products, and market a canine heartworm preventative, TRI-HEART PLUS (ivermectin and pyrantel), as well as ectoparasiticides. BUTOX (deltamethrin) is a leading product protecting farm animals from ectoparasites and therefore minimizing productivity losses. Prominent in companion animal ectoparasites control are EXSPOT (permethrin) protecting dogs against fleas and ticks, while our SCALIBOR ProtectorBand (deltamethrin) is unique in that it protects dogs against sand fly bites – a major vector of the serious parasitic disease, leishmaniasis. In the aquaculture sector, our sea lice treatment, SLICE (emamectin) holds a leadership position.
Pharma specialties
Merck Animal Health's range of fertility management and reproductive aids enjoys an outstanding reputation among the veterinary profession. Products such as ESTRUMATE (cloprostenol) and PLANATE (cloprostenol), FOLLIPLAN (altrenogest), RECEPTAL (buserelin) and PG 600 (a combination of gonadotropins) are used widely to manage the reproduction of livestock around the world. We also help farmers to maximize the performance of their herds and flocks through the use of products such as ZILMAX (zilpaterol), RALGRO (zeranol) and REVALOR (trembalone/estradiol).
In aquaculture fertility management and reproduction is becoming more critical and our GONAZON is being used to advance and synchronize spawning increasing the efficiency of fish breeding. Our anti-infectives and parasiticides are widely used and we always aim to offer the best integrated health solutions to our many customers.
Our BANAMINE/FINADYNE (flunixin) product holds a global leadership position in the market for livestock anti-inflammatories. Our unique veterinary insulin, CANINSULIN/VETSULIN, which is the only product of this type developed specifically for the management of diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats is part of a growing range of specialty products for the treatment of companion animal health problems – a market that has increased rapidly in size and sophistication. Our portfolio also includes the canine cardiovascular treatment, VASOTOP (ramipril) and the ophthalmic ointment OPTIMMUNE and the otic ointment OTOMAX. We recently launched our second generation otic suspension MOMETAMAX, which is highly efficacious and improves pet owner compliance due to a once-a-day administration schedule.
