BOXMEER (The Netherlands), September 30, 2010 – Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health announced today that it has entered into an agreement to sponsor the Equine Business Management Strategies (EBMS) program, which is a targeted business education program developed for equine veteterinarians and practice professionals. This 5-day course has been proven very successful in the United States and had its European kick-off in Amsterdam on August 22, 2010.
Strategy, branding, benchmarking – all topics that are addressed in the business world, but how does the practitioner put them into practice? A group of almost forty equine practitioners from North America and Europe recently gathered to discuss and learn how to apply business principles in their day-to-day work. The program was chaired by Dr. Joop Loomans, an equine veterinarian and responsible for equine business management education at the Department of Equine Sciences of the Veterinary Faculty of Utrecht University (The Netherlands). International specialists on strategic planning, benchmarking, branding and change management created an environment in which the course participants were challenged to work on a strategic plan for their practices and to share their knowledge, experience and ideas. They committed themselves to finish this plan within a limited amount of time as well as to implement this plan in their practices.
The launch of Equine Business Management Strategies program exceeded expectations of participants, sponsor and organizers. The chance to look at the day to day practice from a different angle and to train using this knowledge in different sessions like benchmarking exercises, revenue analysis, branding was highly appreciated. Program participant Jeremy Mantell from Liphook Equine Hospital in the UK said: ”The EBMS has given me a clearer understanding of what I need to change and develop in my practice.”
During the seminar Bob Magnus (USA) and Joop Loomans (the Netherlands) of EBMS announced their determination to continue these seminars on an annual basis, one in the USA and one in Europe.
Dr. Roberto Ragni-Alunni, Global Technical Manager Equine at Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health added: “We believe that running an equine practice is not based solely on technical and scientific skills but also on effective practice management. That is why our company has decided to support this initiative. Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health also continues its custom of providing not only innovating products, but also new, value-added services to strengthen its bond with veterinarians.”
