Parasiticides

Parasite management helps to keep horses healthy

While parasites are a normal part of the intestinal flora of the horse, at times, some parasites can cause disease unless the horses receive routine preventative treatments. An equine intestinal parasite management program should include regular veterinary care, diagnostics, targeted use of easy-to-administer dewormers, effectiveness monitoring and appropriate pasture management.

Vaccines

Vaccination is the best way to prevent horses from contracting certain infectious diseases.

Vaccination can help to protect your horses from many diseases, such as tetanus, equine influenza, equine herpes, West Nile, strangles, and equine encephalomyelitis. Routine vaccine treatment is an important aspect of animal healthcare to ensure the health and well-being of our horses.

From the breeding barn to the show ring and everything in between, Merck Animal Health has a broad range of vaccines that help protect horses. Below is a brief overview of our key equine vaccines.

Pain Management

Merck Animal Health is committed to helping your horse live a comfortable, healthy life

Musculoskeletal disorders and colic impact the health and well-being of horses and can cause pain and discomfort. Effective pain management can help ensure the health and well-being of your horse.

Below is a brief overview of our key products for pain management.

BANAMINE® (North America)

The original brand of flunixin meglumine, Banamine® is an injectable non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to reduce inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders, and visceral pain associated with colic in horses and has a rapid onset of activity.

DOLOREX®

For pain relief in horses with colic. Can also be used in combination with other agents to provide sedation.

Reproduction Management

Merck Animal Health offers solutions for reproduction management

Merck Animal Health is a leader in animal reproduction and has a large portfolio of products for use in reproduction management in different species. Some of these products are used to help manage and optimize reproduction in mares. In addition, some mares show unruly, aggressive, or dangerous behavior during the estrus cycle. This can be particularly problematic in show or competition mares. The use of any product in a competition horse must be compliant with local and/or sport governing body regulations.

REGUMATE®

Regumate (altrenogest 0.22%) delivers safe, predictable control over a mare’s reproductive cycle and reduces undesirable mood and behavioral changes. It’s short dosing regimen lets performance mares compete at their best.

CHORULON®

Chorulon contains human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG), a complex glycoprotein with luteinising hormone (LH). In mares, hCG can be used to treat anestrus and to promote follicle maturation and ovulation.
